Jerboa!

So today I randomly found a pic of the cutest little creature! It's called a "long eared jerboa", and he's so stinkin' cute that I had to draw him/her! I did a drawing based on one of the photos, kept the same pose, taking liberties with the character design but trying to stay a little more realistic.

I might do another one, but REALLY push it to cartoony. That's the best thing about character design to me... you can take one reference photo or idea and do endless variations of design with it, all with varying degrees of personality.

A Long way to go...

Quick visual development sketch of a new character in an animated story of mine. This is the first time I've drawn him (the big "bear" guy), so Im sure he'll some as I narrow his character and adjust the design to fit :)... I threw in some environment and my other character to help get a feel for him in context.

Small Animation Visual Development Scene

This is a small visual development painting from a project I am working on in my brain all the time, and on paper when I get the chance. I took the chance to paint in Sketchbook Pro as I don't use it as much as Id like, and I like to stray from my comfort zone when I can and constantly learn. I hope you enjoy this tiny piece of my world! (I do mean tiny, this is 100% the size of the final, great way to keep from getting overly detailed and focusing on what matters to communicate an idea, try it!) :)

Hurley.... from Life on Nintendo DS "Colors!"

This is my boy Hurley! He fell asleep for about 20 minutes, so I took the chance to paint him before he woke up. It was late in the day and overcast. This is another digital sketch from life on my Nintendo DS using "Colors!"

Character Design of Rodent guy, thing...

I love seeing other people's processes, so i thought I'd show a wink of mine... though it makes me feel naked! This is a character design in a long line of characters for one of my many unmade story ideas. I did some rough sketches first, The first clean up sketch is on the left... it was too stiff for me, it lost the gesture and life so drew him again fixing what stunk about the first drawing.. liked it MUCH better, so then I painted that one in Photoshop. :)
